We really had gorgeous weather all of September with lots of chances to get out and enjoy the most colorful of the seasons. I absolutely love fall and everything that goes along with it! As long and dreary as those Winter days are (and they are dreary, aren't they?) I'm glad we live in a place that has all four seasons.
I find a lot of good ideas on Pinterest (maybe too many). And I recently was inspired to talk a little about how some of these things turn out to be not so picture perfect. I really see the value in having beautiful, natural materials available for little ones. So on a recent walk we picked up some leaves, pine cones and twigs. But, in reality with a 15 month old a basket full of these things really needs to be supervised or you end up with sticks and crunched up leaves all over your living room (I may or may not speak for experience).
That being said, the beautiful display above gets minimized to a couple items if I'm tending to other things around the house.
But the other day during some play time (please excuse the naked baby!) with me and with some real pumpkins added to the basket Brady really explored the items gently and inquisitively and had a great time!
Here's what we did with them:
1. Sorted the pumpkins (real, plastic and fabric).
2. Lined up according to size using "small," "medium," "largest."
3. Counted items while we took them out and put them back in.
4. Talked about the color and texture.
We also had a very fun visit to the pumpkin patch recently and used a lot of the same language about size, texture, color, etc.
I'll admit these pictures are mostly for the "how cute is my kid?" factor, but visually appealing nonetheless!
