Fighting Mama Grumpiness with Gratitude

"Make time for the quiet moments, for God whispers and the world is loud!"

So I have to admit, I've really been grumpy lately. I mean, really grumpy. I've been so irritable with myself, my husband, every little thing. I'm planning some more posts about what I've been struggling with and my plans to turn things around.

But with this post I just really wanted to capture the little blessings I experienced tonight. The "make time for the quiet moments" quote is one of my favorites and I've definitely experienced many "whispers" in my life.

We always look at books before bed.  Brady was really eager to read with me tonight in our new book nook (a pending post for that too). We had the lights dimmed and the lullaby station on Pandora. As we sat together, Brady was so engaged and content. He had this very calm attention about him and really seemed to be enjoying sitting still (which is rare these days) and taking it all in. As we read together, an instrumental of Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing came on and in the midst of the grumpy struggles I've been having lately, I got choked up in the simple joy of dim lights, quiet music and reading books with my son.

I am so thankful for the moments when I'm reminded to slow down, let it go and be thankful. So, as we finished our bedtime routine with nursing in our room, I put aside the mental to-do list usually running through my head and tried to soak it all in. As I sang to him (which I've rarely been doing lately) I instead ran through my list of what I was grateful for today. Here is what I came up with:
1. My husband- this man puts up with a lot. Really. He fixes meals, is always thinking of how he can make our days better and most importantly takes care of our little guy 4 days a week. We are blessed!
2. Super enthusiastic hugs- Brady was eating supper when I got home. As soon as he was free from his seat he ran to give me a big hug! xoxo
3. Reminders of what's important- I am so thankful for the whispers God sends us. Enough said.

There is so much more to be said about trials, how to get through them and attitudes of gratitude. But, I'll keep this short and sweet.
